Tuesday 3rd November
Today in Katy's lesson we discussed briefly the important topic of representing ourselves. Katy suggested that we start thinking about this as we study because this will be very important after we leave the course.
I got thinking about this and the ways in which i will represent myself as a photographer, some of the ones i thought of are:
Website
A website is a good way of showing your work and is easily accessible to most people.
I dont have a website at the moment but i plan to create one over the next few years as i am studying for my degree.
I have looked at a few websites of other photographers to get an idea of the layouts and styles that are being used and hopefully build up a picture of what i want from my own website, here are the links to my favourite websites:
Blog Site
I looked at the different blog sites available for my own purpose- to record my learning for my Degree. I did find that a lot are very similar and the main differences are in the templates used on peoples individual sites, the template decides what columns you have and therefore it is important to chose one that is appropriate for your needs, i have tried out a few different styles;
This is quite a nice girly layout and has the bonus of the Blog Archive for ease of use, but i'm just not sure it looks professional enough. Although i dont plan to give out my blog address to perspective employers it is still a representation of my work and therfore i want a style that i am happy with.
Business cards
I plan to create my own business cards in order to promote myself as a Photographer, due to the demands of this course and my never ending perfectionism i dont have the time to do this at the moment but think it will be a useful and relatively cheap way to get my name out there.
Portfolio
This is something that i know we will be looking at soon with Katy so i am sure there will be another blog regarding the development of my Portfolio. I do have a print based portfolio currently and have added to this over the last year or two, but i don't feel it was professional enough to present to a perspective employer, for this reason i am looking forward to developing this with Katy's help.
I also have a Flikr site which is effectively my online portfolio:
CV
At the moment my CV is very professional and perfect for the Finance industry that i have worked in since leaving school. It needs a lot of adaptation to be relevant for use in the Photography industry and this is something that i am currently working on.
