Rimaldas Viksraitis

I came across this Lithuanian photographer whilst reading a magazine i was given at Vision in London and learned that Martin Parr had promoted him after being invited to nominate at the Discovery Awards at Rencontres d'Arles.

Martin Parr was so impressed with his work that he urged people to vote for him saying that winning would change the mans life. He did win the prize although Viksraitis has said that nothing has changed.

I was looking in the internet to see if i could find out more about him and found this article which i thought was really interesting:

As i have become more and more interested in Photojournalism i have looked at a few photographers and he is one that i really like. Although his work is not well known as he isnt (yet) a famous photographer, i really like his work, the intimate glimpse's he gives of these people living in a small confined village.
His photographs are quite humerous but also absurd as we see a young boy with a cigerette and a naked man stood with a row of bottles! I feel that the photos represent the fact that there is little to do but drink alcohol and amuse oneself in any way possible.

Here are the photos that are part of the article and also featured in the British Journal of Photography magazine:
